The Steve Mertens Memorial Scholarship Program
HISTORY
Steve Mertens was the founder of the Smart Designs Art System and a pioneer in the screen printing industry. The Steve Mertens Memorial Scholarship Program was founded in 1999 by a group of visionaries on the Crossroads Board of Directors. The group wanted to start a scholarship program to assist Crossroads residents and alumni in achieving their lifelong dream of attending college, technical, or vocational training. The board of directors also wanted to find a way to honor Steve Mertens, then terminally ill, for his years of service with the Crossroads and the recovery community. Steve was a very active member of the Crossroads community who died on December 10, 1999 shortly after receiving this award. Steve was very proud of this honor and today his family continues his legacy by participating in the program.
Craig Mertens and Nicole Mertens-Holloway, his son and daughter, are the co-founders of Digital Art Solutions. Digital Art Solutions is proud to sponsor the Steve Mertens Scholarship Program. Anyone wishing to contribute to the scholarship program can contact Craig or Nicole at 1-800-959-7627.
